Terms of Use
Plain-English terms. If you use GravelMaps you agree to these. If any of it is unacceptable to you, don't use the app.
The rider is in charge
This is an adventure map. Adventure means getting lost sometimes, running into locked gates, finding trees that turn you around, and surfaces that change with weather.
When you use GravelMaps, your route is your call. You are responsible for every decision at every junction. We do not guarantee that any road shown on the map is open, passable, legal to ride, or suitable for your vehicle. Always carry paper backup, check local conditions before you leave, and use your own judgement on the ground.
No warranty on map accuracy
Map data is sourced from OpenStreetMap and other open sources. It is contributed by volunteers worldwide. Some routes on the map may be wrong, out of date, seasonal, private, closed, or unsafe for motorised traffic. We pass through the data as-is and do not independently verify individual roads or trails.
License to use the app
GravelMaps is distributed under the Apache License 2.0, the same license as its upstream projects (CoMaps, Organic Maps, MAPS.ME). You may install and use the app on as many devices as you own. Third-party libraries bundled with the app are listed on the in-app About → Copyright screen along with their respective licenses.
Acceptable use
Don't do anything illegal with the app. Don't use it to harass people, impersonate others, or misrepresent that you are associated with GravelMaps. Beyond that, ride as you wish.
Beta software
GravelMaps is currently in beta. That means:
- Features may change, break, or be removed without notice.
- You may encounter bugs. Please report them to support@gravelmaps.app.
- You should treat saved bookmarks, tracks and downloads as non-permanent until the app reaches a stable release.
Disclaimer of liability
GravelMaps is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors shall not be liable for any claim, damages, injury, loss, or other liability arising from the use of the app — whether or not the data is accurate, whether or not the app functions as expected, and whether or not you reach your destination.
Use of the app while riding is at your own risk. Mount your phone safely. Do not operate controls while in motion. Comply with all local road laws.
Open-source attribution
GravelMaps is a fork of CoMaps, itself a community-led fork of Organic Maps, descended from MAPS.ME. Full attribution for upstream projects, map data, icons and libraries is available in the app via About → Copyright.
Changes
We may revise these terms. When we do, we will update this page and bump the revision date. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.
